Food Studies Presents to OHIO Foundation Board:
Over the summer, the OHIO Foundation Board visited Ohio University and was introduced to the Ohio University Food Studies Theme by a small group of students and faculty. On the evening of Friday, June 9, the OU Inn hosted the board as well as a few students and faculty members for a cocktail hour, which included a pig roast from local Arcadian Acres farm as the main dish.
During the cocktail hour, guests were served various appetizers created from produce from the Ohio University Learning Gardens. This produce was grown and harvested by students of the Food Studies Theme. Guests were also able to sample wine and beers from local wineries and breweries including Jackie O’s and Pleasant Hills winery. Students and faculty chatted with guests about the Food Studies Theme as well as how students hope to involve it in their future careers.
Following Friday evening’s event, two students and two faculty members had the opportunity to present the Food Studies Theme more in depth to board members. One student, Joy Kostansek, gave a personal presentation on what Food Studies means to her as well as how she uses it both in school and her job. Faculty members Dr. Theresa Moran, director of the theme, and Dr. Paul Patton also gave a brief presentation about the theme and how they are hoping to see it grow.
