Dr. Daniel Karney

Dr. Daniel Karney

Moderated by Dr. Daniel Karney, Assistant Professor of Economics, this webinar will explore the current state of the midstream sector of the shale industry, the connection between the midstream and regional wealth retention, and what impact investments in the midstream may have on regional economic development and job creation.

Drilling for oil and gas in the Marcellus and Utica shale plays may have slowed in recent years, but the region is poised for the next phase of industry development: the midstream. As midstream operations evolve in the Marcellus and Utica area, will new transmission and refining capacity benefit regional manufacturers and their supply chains by attracting capital investments and the jobs that come with it? What is the current state of the midstream sector of the industry, what is on the horizon, and what impacts may these investments have on regional economic development and job creation? Join us to find out as we explore the connections between resource extraction and wealth retention in this upcoming webinar.

About the Shale Innovation Project

The Shale Innovation Project is an interdisciplinary collaboration between the Russ College of Engineering and Technology, the Voinovich School of Leadership and Public Affairs, and the College of Arts & Sciences examining the impact of shale development on businesses and communities in Ohio’s shale region. This project is generously supported by a three-year Innovation Strategy Award from the Ohio University Research Division.
