Due to the extreme heat that Athens has been experiencing, the Friday Veggie Sales at the Plant Biology Learning Gardens are suspended, effective immediately. (No sale Friday July 21.) But veggie lovers can still pre-order or place bulk orders.
“We hope to start up again with the Friday sales when the fall semester begins. We will send out an announcement when we restart the Friday sales,” says Jordyn Henderson of the Food Matter club, associated with the Food Studies theme.
“We so appreciate your support and we don’t want anyone to go without their Friday veggies! So, if you’d like to pre-order, or place a bulk order, for produce, please contact either Henderson jh019313@ohio.edu or Kelsey Bryant kb578415@ohio.edu. To order veggies, please contact us by Thursday at noon to confirm produce availability and to ensure ample harvest time. Pre-ordered produce will be available for pick up between 4-5:30 p.m. on Fridays at the Plant Biology Learning Gardens on West State Street.
“Again, thank you so very much for your support!” adds Henderson.
This weekly vegetable sale offers students, faculty and staff delicious, all-organic produce grown by Food Studies students under the direction of Dr. Art Trese in the Plant Biology Learning Gardens.
The Veggie Sales continue to provide opportunities to get produce locally:
- Fridays by pre-order only at the Plant Biology Learning Gardens
- Wednesdays at the Grover Market at the Atrium Café in Grover Center (1-3 p.m.)
Proceeds from the veggie sale will help fund Food Studies summer internships. Dr. Theresa Moran, Food Studies Theme Director, notes that working with the Atrium Café showcases its green initiatives and is a great example of cross-college collaboration, adding that “sharing food and making a meal really brings everyone together!” The Atrium Café is a student-run business connected with the Ohio University Division of Food Sciences and Nutrition.
