While students focus a lot on transitioning into their first year of college, they often avoid the transition out of Ohio University during senior year.

This will be a confusing and emotional time for many of you leaving the boundaries of Athens and Ohio University, and you need to give yourself time to prepare. We still have four weeks left in the semester, so consider the following tips for this week:

  • Stay focused and finish strong. There is nothing worse than working to maintain your GPA and then being struck by senioritis and bombing your last exams.
  • Visit the Career and Leadership Development Center to brush up your resume, complete a mock interview, and register with Bobcat Career Link so employers can see your resume and you can search for jobs.
  • Talk to your professors and advisers to see who will be willing to write recommendation letters should you need them. You should give at least a month’s notice if you need someone to write a letter.
  • Make a “bucket list” of everything you would like to do and see during your remaining time here but know you can always come back home to visit.
  • Register with the Alumni Association so you can stay in touch. They have many great events and networks located around the country and abroad.
  • Begin making plans for your housing situation after graduation and be sure to have a support system in place.
  • Prepare your commencement plans and celebrate!

Take a breath. You’ve got this.
