The Center for Student Legal Services (CSLS) is currently taking applications from students for a position on its Board of Directors (BOD) during the 2017-2018 academic year.
CSLS is a non-profit law firm that provides advice and representation to Ohio University students for legal issues that arise in Athens County, OH. Their firm is staffed by a criminal defense attorney, a civil litigation attorney, an office manager, and a receptionist. CSLS is governed by a BOD comprised mainly of OU students. The outgoing BOD will elect 3 officers – Chairperson, Vice Chairperson, and Treasurer – to lead the incoming BOD. They handle criminal as well as civil cases in the legal system.
“Students who serve on the center’s board gain valuable non-profit management experience,” said Larry Hayman, Center for Law, Justice & Culture Pre-Law Specialist and adviser to the CSLS’s Board of Directors. “Board members also play a vital role in furthering the CSLS’s mission, and ensuring its continuing existence. CSLS is such an incredible resource for OHIO students to have here in Athens,” Hayman said.
“Probably the greatest perk of board membership is working so closely with famed criminal defense lawyer and the center’s Managing Attorney, Patrick McGee. Students, especially those interested in law, will gain valuable practical knowledge about managing a legal practice from an incredible lawyer.”
