Dr. William Holmes will discuss “The search for true numbers of neurons and glial cells in the human brain” at Neurolunch on Tuesday Jan. 31, at noon in LSB 201.
Holmes is Professor of Biological Sciences at Ohio University.
Abstract: It is widely believed that glial cells outnumber neurons 10:1. This is the ratio reported in major textbooks. However recent studies with a new counting method place this ratio closer to 1:1. Reasons for the discrepancy and implications the new numbers will be discussed.
