What a spring for the Food Studies theme!

Spring 2017 Events

Jan. 18, 4-5 p.m.: Food in Sicily study abroad info session in Baker 226.

Feb. 2: 

  • 4 p.m.: Spanish Colloquium– The Modern Languages Department presents a panel with Paty Perez, alumna of Ohio University and producer of “Finding Gaston.”
  • 7 p.m.: Food on Film free showing of “Sustainable” at the Athena Cinema. Co-sponsored by the Food Studies theme, the Common Experience Project on Sustainability and Alden Library.

Feb. 3, 4 p.m.: Spanish Colloquium– The Department of Modern Languages presents Steven Alvarez who will give a talk titled “Taco Literacies: Mexican Foodways in the U.S. South.” The talk will be followed by a food workshop and dinner.

Feb. 7, 4:30-6 p.m., Food Studies CAS 2100x: Mapping the Future Taste of Athens event in Alden 319. Students in CAS 2100x will be presenting and sampling foods that they have cooked with various local chefs.

Feb. 9, 7 p.m.: Food on Film free showing of “Bugs” at the Athena Cinema. Co-sponsored by the Food Studies theme, the Common Experience Project on Sustainability and Alden Library.

Feb. 22, 7 p.m.: Food for Thought Speaker Series- “Harvest the Past, Feed the Future: Cultivating the Forgotten Indigenous Crops of Eastern North America” in Baker Ballroom.

Feb. 28, 7 p.m.:  Food on Film free Showing of “Tampopo” at the Athena Cinema. Co-sponsored by the Food Studies Theme and the Department of Linguistics.

March 27-30: The Environmental Justice Summit, hosted by the Student Senate’s Environmental Affairs Commission.

March 27, 7 p.m.:  The Food for Thought Speaker Series presents Dr. Vandana Shiva, co-sponsored by Food Studies Theme, Voinovich School for Leadership and Public Affairs, Food Matters Club, Common Experience Project on Sustainability, University College, and Environmental Studies. Held in Baker Theater.

April 21, 2-3 p.m.: The Center for Campus and Community Engagement is hosting a Community Coffee Talk focusing on Food and the Community in Baker 233. The CCCE hopes to bring together members of the Ohio University and greater Athens communities to network and discuss shared interests and potential areas for collaboration. The event is free and light refreshments will be served.
