NOTE: The deadline for the Martin Luther King Jr. Poster Contest has been extended until 5 p.m. Friday, Jan. 13.
All Ohio University students along with Athens middle and high school students are invited to enter the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. poster contest, “A Matter of Legacy: Creative Arts as Activism.”
The Ohio University MLK Jr. Celebration Week Committee is sponsoring the first annual poster contest. Participants must create an original poster design that incorporates some aspect of the Civil Rights Movement, a quote from Dr. King, and one or more of these ideas: justice, cultural appreciation, respect, freedom and equality. Posters should be creative and a combination of texts and imagery.
Martin Luther King Jr. Day is Jan. 16.
How to Enter
All entries are due no later than Jan. 13 by 5 p.m. Posters must be dropped off at either the African American Studies Department, 31 S. Court St. Suite 122, or at the Multicultural Center, Baker Center 311.
Other criteria: Posters must be 16×20 inches in size including border and have a firm backing. Posters that use paint, charcoal or glitter must be laminated or covered with clear plastic.
Each entry should include the poster and a short bio of the student attached to the back of poster. The bio should include the student’s full name, address, email, contact number, school or department, teacher’s name (if applicable) and grade level.
One winner will be selected from each category. Winners will receive:
- College—$100 check, OHIO swag, and two tickets to the MLK Jr. Brunch
- High School—$75 check, OHIO swag, and two tickets to the MLK Jr. Brunch
- Middle School—$50 check, OHIO swag, and two tickets to the MLK Jr. Brunch
