Alum Earns Ph.D. in Economics, With Claremont Institute for Economic Policy Studies

Ohio University alum Jacob Meyer’ 13 earned a Ph.D. in Economics from Claremont Graduate University, reports the Sidney Daily News.

After graduating from Sidney High School, Meyer attended Ohio University for his undergraduate studies, where he majored in Economics and Political Science. While there he received the Gateway Excellence Scholarship and was the president of Phi Kappa Tau.

Following gradation from Ohio University, Meyer spent the summer interning on Capital Hill with U.S. Rep. Jim Jordan before beginning an academic fellowship at Claremont Graduate University, where he focused on International Money and Finance and Global Political Economy as his two fields.

Meyer finished his coursework a year ago and moved to candidacy for his Ph.D. in February. He wrote his dissertation on the role of political institutional constraints in crisis probability for the three main forms of financial crisis – sovereign debt, currency, and banking. Meyer recently finished defending his dissertation to successfully earn his Ph.D.

He is currently a research associate at the Claremont Institute for Economic Policy Studies. In conjunction with Tom Willett, the former head of the research division of the U.S. Treasury Department, and John Rutledge, an economic adviser to Presidents Reagan and Bush, Meyer works to analyze the link between credit booms, capital inflows, and banking crises in order to evaluate systemic risk and predict crises.
