Those not able to attend in person can join a zoom meeting room.
Program Summary
The community-based Tropical Disease Research program is a result of 15 years of collaboration between the Infectious and Tropical Disease Institute at Ohio University and the Center for Research on Health in Latin America (CISeAL), located in Quito. The project aims to reach underserved populations with state-of-the-art training and technology to help control the transmission of Chagas disease and other infectious and chronic conditions affecting people in Ecuador and Latin America.
The coastal region of Ecuador was hit by a magnitude 7.8 earthquake on April 16, 2016, that killed 670 people, injured nearly 5,000 and left as many as 80,000 homeless. The coastal province of Manabí was hardest hit. Disaster recovery efforts continue. Options 1 and 2 will allow students to gain practical research experience, and Option 3 would allow students to participate in service learning activities. Option 4 would allow students to conduct laboratory internships at the state of the art Center for Research on Health in Latin America, located near Quito.
