Sherman is an Associate Professor at Florida Atlantic University. He received his Ph.D. from the University of California, Riverside in 2011.

He is currently interested in three area of research. The first looks to understand why humans are so psychologically diverse, how this diversity changes over time, and how these differences are related to important life outcomes. His second area of research is in developing theoretically and empirically based measures of the important psychological characteristics of situations. Sherman wants to understand how people experience situations in their daily lives (e.g., Twitter), to understand how personality and situational characteristics interact to produce behavior (e.g., Independent Effects), and to understand how personality relates to the selection, evocation, manipulation, and perception of situations. Lastly, Ryne is working on developing software (in the form of R functions) aimed at answering particular research questions.
