The Psychology Colloquium series presents Dr. Richard Greenlee on “Appalachian Cultural Competence for Mental Health Providers” on Friday, Oct. 28, at 11:50 a.m. in Porter 102.
Greenlee joined Ohio University in 1990 as an associate professor of social work. He went on to become chair of the Department of Social Work and then Associate Provost for Appalachian Access and Enrichment Programs. He was named dean of Ohio University’s Eastern Campus in 2009. Throughout his career at Ohio University, Greenlee has been an active member of several community boards including service as President, Tri-County Mental Health Board; Vice-President, Rural Action Board; President, Fairfield County Drug and Alcohol Recovery Services Board; and President of the National Association of Social Workers, Ohio Chapter. He has also served as a member of the Belmont County Department of Development/Community Improvement Corporation Board.
Greenlee has also been the recipient of several awards including the Ohio University Presidential Teacher Award, Rita Gillick Mental Health Advocate Award, College of Arts and Sciences Dean’s Outstanding Teaching Award, and the University Professor Award. Additionally, he was twice awarded the Air Force Commendation Medal and received the Outstanding Service Award from the National Association of Social Workers-Ohio Chapter. In 2015, he was the recipient of the Austin C. Furbee Award, given in recognition of his dedication and contribution to Ohio University and the community.
In retirement, Greenlee continues to teach undergraduate social work classes on the Eastern Campus, a graduate course for the Athens campus, and as the Interim Coordinator of the MSW Program for the Ohio University Athens campus.
