Ohio University alum Tatiana Fox has worked in cultural resource management—private sector archaeology—for the past two and a half years.
Fox talked about her career at the OHIO Archaeology Field School Alumni Panel on Oct. 14.
She graduated from the College of Arts & Sciences at Ohio University in 2014 with a double major in Classical Civilization and Psychology and a minor in Anthropology.
She has worked for three companies, since graduating, and she currently is working as a field technician for Tetra Tech—a leading provider of consulting, engineering and technical services worldwide. Fox has been both a field technician and a crew chief, having had her own crew on a Phase I survey for a little over seven months.
“We do everything from initial Phase 1 surveys, Phase II sampling and Phase III excavations,” she says. “You also get to experience all phases of excavation, and depending on where you work, you can come to know the archaeology and geomorphology of a region very well.
“You have to have a thick skin and a high pain tolerance to do well in CRM, but you are always on an adventure, and you never know what you will find on any given day,” she adds. “What I love most about my job is that every day is different.”
