One of the biggest mistakes students can make during their college career is not taking the time to get to know professors. These are top scholars who like to impart knowledge to others and discuss their field of study. They can help you to understand class content, discuss your academic and career goals, act as a mentor, write recommendation letters, and be a potential resource for job opportunities. Ways to get to know your professors are to simply introduce yourself, sit up front and be attentive, engage in class discussion, go to office hours, or attend lectures and events hosted by their department. And always keep in mind that professors are people too!
