Ring Theory Seminar | On Additive Classes and Rings, Sept. 30

The Ohio University-Ohio State University Ring Theory Seminar presents “On additive classes and rings” on Friday, Sept. 30, at 4:45-5:45 p.m. in Cockins Hall 240, OSU-Columbus.

The speaker is Sergio Zamora-Erazo from the Universidad Autónoma Metropolitana-Iztapalapa, Mexico City, Mexico.

Abstract: In 1972, Walker & Walker gave a somehow different approach to Torsion Theories studying certain types of Serre classes. For that, they introduced the notion of an Additive Class. These are abstract classes that are closed under taking submodules, homomorphic images and finite direct sums. In this talk, we will show the lattice properties of R-ad, the class of all additive classes, when R is a Noetherian ring or semi simple ring or any ring. We will show a subclass of R-ad that is isomorphic to R-pretors, the class of all hereditary pretorsion classes, and some results in Ring Theory with it.
