For students interested in helping other Bobcats, Students Defending Students (SDS) is accepting applications for advisor positions from now until Sept. 16.
SDS is a subsidiary of the OHIO Student Senate. This one-of-a-kind organization provides student advisors who assist other students going the the process of Community Standards. SDS Student Advisors assist students who are accused of misconduct such as underage drinking or drug usage.
The student organization is dedicated to upholding students’ rights.
“We are advisors, not lawyers,” says Associate Director Allison Barnard, who has been with SDS for one-and-a-half years. “Since [students] can’t have a lawyer present, we are there for them.”
To apply, students should pick up an application from the SDS office, Baker Center 302, on the third floor across from Student Senate. Applicants must submit the form along with a resume, cover letter, and class schedule, in the folder on the door of the SDS office.
The position is open to all students, regardless of major or year.
Barnard says that there is only one requirement: “We make sure [applicants] are passionate about helping students.”
While all students are encouraged to apply, SDS is particularly beneficial for students interested in law. Barnard notes that SDS “really helped with law school.”
Please email any questions about the application process, or the organization itself, to studentsdefendingstudents@gmail.com or call 740-593-4045.
