Ohio University’s Center for International Studies hosts an intensive language institute in Swahili this summer that is free to eligible undergraduate and secondary school students in grades 9 through 12.
Students will participate in on-campus activities between July 5, and August 5, 2016. In addition, all participants will be concurrently enrolled in a 4-credit Elementary Swahili course that will extend until Dec. 10, 2016, and will require a few graded online activities beyond the on-campus portion of the program.
The costs of in-state tuition, fees, and meals, as well as field trips to The Wilds, the Swahili community in Columbus, and to the Hocking Hills will be covered by the Center for International Studies. This is a non-residential program; participants will be responsible for housing and transportation to the Athens campus each day.
Space is limited, and students need to show that they are academically prepared to succeed in a college environment through an application process. The application deadline is June 1.
Interested students and family members should direct questions to Catherine Cutcher, assistant director for global studies programs, at cutcher@ohio.edu or 740-597-2756.
