Psychology Alumna with Sociology Minor is Recruiter for Cardinal Health

Chelsea Thompson graduated in 2014 with her B.A. in Psychology, with a minor in Sociology from the College of Arts & Sciences and a minor in Communications Studies from the School of Communications at Ohio University. Within a few months she started working in Talent Acquisition for Cardinal Health and was promoted in November 2015.

“The most rewarding factor of my job is finding the right applicant and not only offering them the role but also fulfilling the manager’s expectations and beyond.

“The frustrations definitely occur locating the right candidate; especially when it comes to very niche type roles.

“I take lots of pride in myself for working such a prestigious company that works to directly enhance the health and well-being of healthcare patients.”

ThompsonChelseaProviding Staffing Needs to Pharmaceutical Division

“As a recruiter, I am responsible for the staffing needs of the pharmaceutical division that I support.

“Cardinal Health is divided between the Medical side dealing mostly with medical devices and equipment and the Pharmaceutical side dealing with an array of different types of drugs. I specifically support the Specialty Solutions type drug market which is a fast-paced, ever-changing environment.

“I directly work with Managers on their openings and the needs of their specific business; understanding their roles and how they fit into Cardinal Health. I am then responsible for finding qualified candidates – if that be going through applications or sourcing and locating them through other major social media sites.

“I work with the candidates to teach them about Cardinal Health and the specific role they have been targeted for before working with the managers to get them in for interviews and meeting the team members. If they are selected for offer, I then create and extend those offers to the candidates and get them through pre-employment and ultimately their start with the company.

Dynamic Work Environment

“My time at Ohio University and the psychology and sociology courses I took definitely provided me with the necessary tools and resources to analyze the wide and mass variety of people I speak with day to day.

“The position includes having to assess social behaviors and how different business units interact as well as a need to study the different markets/cities to understand their structures and differences between groups of people.

“This type of work environment is very dynamic and no two days are the same which makes it very challenging but also quite worthwhile.”
