McKenna Wulker ’14 (Sociology-Criminology and Women & Gender Studies) says that being a Records Analyst at Taft/ involves managing records for the entire Cincinnati office.
“I love that I’m able to work hands on with our attorneys and play an active role in our firm.
“Every day is exciting and different so I never get complacent or bored.”
What does a Records Analyst do?
“I coordinate storage and organization, as well as retrieval and refiles for about 100 attorney’s files. I store and retrieve sensitive estate plans from our Safe Deposit storage daily and create labels for files that can be sent to storage.
“I also manage about 10 document rooms that are used to store files and boxes that are currently being used by our attorneys in trials and case reviews. Overall, I am the hub for information management in our Cincinnati office.”
What a Summer Internship Taught Her
“The summer before my senior year, I was lucky enough to land an internship with the Ohio Public Defender in Athens through the Department of Sociology and Anthropology.
“This internship allowed me to delve deeper into the legal system and get acquainted with legal terminology before I started at Taft/, which helped boost my confidence that I wasn’t going to be completely clueless!
“My experience at the Public Defender’s office taught me the proper handling of filings and discovery, privacy laws, office etiquette, and much, much more.”
“Though my job now is much different than my role at the Public Defender, the knowledge I’ve gained from that my time in that internship has been absolutely invaluable.
“Being in Records has allowed me to take on quite a bit of responsibility within the company and I’m happy to be the go-to person for attorney’s records needs.”
