“I love that I’m using my degree. Upon graduating I was extremely passionate on finding a career that was consistent with my degree and my academic interests.

“While I did have to do some relocating, it was completely worth it because I’m in a job that I love and I can continue to apply what I learned from the Ohio University sociology program.”

Eric Lockmer earned his B.A. in Sociology-Criminology (2009) and M.A. in Sociology (2011) from the College of Arts & Sciences at Ohio University.

“After graduating from Ohio University, I took a position with the Executive Office of Public Safety and Security in Massachusetts. My work there largely focused on correction research, policy, and evaluation oversight.

“I worked there for about three years before moving on to my current position with the Department of Defense. I work in Quantico, VA with the United States Marine Corps and play a role in developing and implementing research-informed initiatives that are aimed at preventing sexual assault in the military.

“What I like most about my job is the fact that I get paid to think!

“It’s a great feeling know that the work that I do contributes to a meaningful purpose–the prevention of sexual assault in the military.”
