The fourth annual Queer Studies Conference is March 31 and April 1 at Ohio University. The theme for the conference is Queer Justice: Struggles and Strategies.
OHIO’s LGBT Center encourages proposal submissions by Friday, Feb. 26.
- Paper proposals should be no more than 300 words and list presenter’s name, key words regarding theme, field of study, and institutional affiliation (if any).
- The conference is also a space to feature and share artistic or creative pieces and contributions such as artwork, videos, and photo essays. Contact delfin bautista (bautista@ohio.edu) with any questions.
- Possible themes for all submissions can include (but not limited to): intersectionality, queer voices of color, role of social justice and activism in society, connections between media representations and treatment of LGBTQ people, queer-narratives of resilience, healthcare advocacy, queering of immigration reform, safer and inclusive education practices.
Proposals can focus on academic inquiry, skills-development, and/or creative performance/expression—this conference is an excellent opportunity to present work, create community, and facilitate collaboration across disciplines and institutions.
Proposals should be sent to lgbt@ohio.edu.
The conference is being organized by the LGBT Center in collaboration with Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies; the Women’s Center; Athens Ohio Roller Derby; Queer Student Collective / Queers United In Protest; the Center for Law, Justice, & Culture; and the Student Senate Appropriations Committee.
