Jeff Negrey earned a B.A. in Sociology-Criminology in 2005 and an M.A. in Sociology in 2009 from the College of Arts & Sciences at Ohio University.
“Besides being a proud husband and a father to my son, Tommy, I currently serve as the “Autopsy Program Administrator” for the National Prion Disease Pathology Surveillance Center located on the campus of Case Western Reserve University.
Coordinating Autopsies and Analyzing Data
“My position requires me to coordinate autopsies nationally for persons suspected of having Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease or other Prion diseases.
“In addition to my autopsy duties, I also serve as the CSF Case Manager where I follow-up and analyze data on the effectiveness of our pre-mortem screening techniques for patients who have unknown encephalopathies.
The Mystery of Disease
“The aspect of my job I enjoy the most is the mystery of disease.
“I arrange for the brain autopsies of some of the most unusual neuro-related deaths that occur in the United States. Some of these patients suffer from extremely rare diseases and unfortunate genetic conditions.
“We develop, test, and implement cutting edge laboratory testing techniques that are a tremendous benefit to the scientific community.
“Even though I currently work at a university, it is not the same as my undergrad/grad days spent at Ohio University. As I’ve gotten older, I have realized how special and unique that undergraduate-graduate experience was, and I will always be a Bobcat deep down inside.”
