Participants Sought for Understanding Social and Emotional Skills in Children Study

The Center for Intervention Research in Schools is looking for children ages 8 to 14 with high levels of inattention, hyperactivity, and/or impulsivity to participate in a research study about social and emotional skills.

  • Center for Intervention Research in SchoolsChildren will view pictures of faces of animals, watch a children’s television show, and be asked questions about both.
  • Participants will earn $30 for completion of a one-time study session.

Dr. Julie Owens, Professor of Psychology, and Verenea Serrano, M.S. are conducting the project to understand social and emotional skills in children.

Project Description

The goal of the project is to better understand how children identify and interpret social and emotional information and how patterns of information processing are related to social outcomes. Participation in the project requires 1.5 hours of the parent and child’s time. Child participation includes completing questionnaires and watching videos of faces and animals and an episode of the television show Growing Pains. Parents will complete rating scales and an interview about their child’s behavior and development. Participants will receive $30 for completing study procedures.

The session will take place in Porter Hall on the Ohio University campus in Athens, OH, and can be scheduled at times convenient for the family.
