Finals are over—but there’s one more voluntary assignment for folks still in Athens. Go to your pantry or the grocery store tonight and select a few non-perishable food items to bring to campus on Tuesday.
The Fall Food Drive—with a goal of collecting one ton of food—wraps up with a final collection and a gingerbread contest creation honoring the theme “Feeding Athens.”
- The food drop off (and gingerbread “people’s choice” voting) is Tuesday, Dec. 15, at 3 p.m. in the Baker Center West 82 food court.
Faculty and staff from College of Arts & Sciences and two themes—Food Studies and Wealth & Poverty—are participating in the ninth-annual Ohio University Gingerbread House Decorating Contest. Two “Feeding Athens” entries will encompass the concepts of:
- Locally grown sustainable food, as modeled in the Plant Biology Learning Gardens.
- Supporting those in need in Athens County.
All food collected on Dec. 15 will go to the Athens Food Pantry.
The food drive is the Wealth & Poverty theme’s fall service and outreach activity. For more information on the food drive, contact Dr. Stephen Scanlan, Associate Professor of Sociology.
