Alum is Geography Associate Professor at Penn State

“I graduated from Ohio University with a B.S. in Geography (concentrating in cartography under the direction of Dr. Hugh Blömer) in 1988. After graduation I held various job titles with the U.S. Geologic Survey, R. R. Donnelley and Sons, Intergraph Corp., Kansas Geologic Survey, and the T. R. Smith Map Library where I performed various cartographic related duties,” says Fritz Kessler ’88.

“Desirous to continue my education, I obtained my M.S. degree from Penn State and my Ph.D. from the University of Kansas. After completing my Ph.D., I held a faculty position in the Department of Geography at Frostburg State University. For 16 years I taught courses that included cartography, surveying, statistics, physical geography, and medical geography. I also served as Departmental Chair.

“I left Frostburg State University for a faculty position at Penn State, where I hold a dual appointment with the Geography Department and the John Dutton e-Education Institute. In my current position I teach cartography and GIS courses to a mixture of resident and online students.”
