The Newspaper Guild is sponsoring a panel discussion on Women, Journalism, and Harassment on Tuesday, Dec. 1.
The goal of this event is to have a conversation about how women in the journalism industry can combat certain issues regarding pay equity, online harassment, and how to bring a woman’s unique perspective to stories being covered.
The panel will be held in Schoonover 145 from 7 to 8 p.m.
The panel includes Sarah Jenkins, program coordinator for the Women’s Center; Alicia Chavira Prado, Special Assistant to the Vice Provost for Diversity and Inclusion; and Michelle Ferrier, Associate Dean of Innovation for Scripps J School, who created an online platform Trollbusters to combat cyber harassment.
Newspaper Guild is a national organization that works on raising the standards of ethics in the journalism industry.
The panel is coordinated by Newspaper Guild Student Ambassadors Sophie Kruse and Rachel Hartwick.
As ambassadors, they aim to plan campus events to raise awareness and help inform students of important issues related to communications and social justice.
The event is free and open to the public. students from all majors and schools are encouraged to attend.
