Filmmaker Kurbanjan Samat talks about the documentary video “I am from Xinjing” Thursday, Oct. 1, from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. in the Friends of the Library Room in Alden Library.
Samat is a prominent independent freelancer photographer and filmmaker who is a native Xinjiang Uyghur Muslim. His documentary is about the Xinjiang native people’s life in mainland China. For his work, he was invited by former President Jimmy Carter and his wife, Rosalynn, in June 2015 to take part in the celebration of the 36th anniversary of the formal diplomatic relationship between the United States and the People’s Republic of China.
