Anderson Hosts Awards Banquet, Presents at ASA and Rural Sociological Society

Dr. Cynthia Anderson, Associate Professor of Sociology, served as presider and discussant for the American Sociological Association conference session “Rural Contexts as Spaces of Inequality, Power & Identity” in August.

The American Sociological Association annual meeting provides the opportunity for professionals involved in the scientific study of society to share knowledge and new directions in research and practice. Nearly 600 program sessions are convened during the four-day meeting held every August to provide participation venues and networking outlets for nearly 3,000 research papers and over 4,600 presenters.

Anderson also is Awards Committee Chair for the Rural Sociological Society and hosted its awards banquet in August. She also attended a council meeting and presented a paper on “The New Rural Economy” at the annual meetings in Madison, Wisconsin.

The Rural Sociological Society is a professional social science association that promotes the generation, application, and dissemination of sociological knowledge. The society seeks to enhance the quality of rural life, communities, and the environment. The topic for this year’s annual meeting was “Knowing Rural.”
