The Physics & Astronomy Colloquium Series presents Clare Yu of the University of California, Irvine on “A Physicist Looks at Cancer” on Friday, Sept. 11, at 4:10 p.m. in Walter 245.
Abstract: We will give an overview of cancer and discuss what physics can bring to cancer biology. We will talk about the types of questions that physicists can ask such as “Why does a tumor form where it does?” We will also describe a new type of diagnostic imaging: ultra-low field MRI (Magnetic Resonance Imaging) that is potentially much cheaper than current MRI machines and can image prostate cancer, which current imaging does poorly at best.
