Last Tuesday, Sept. 8, the OPIE hosted International Conversation Hour from 6-7 p.m. in Bobcat Student Lounge on the first floor of Baker. More than 80 international and American students met to discuss the culture, holidays, and food of their home countries.
According to Awad Almutairi, an OPIE student from Saudi Arabia, one of the Chinese students in his group shared that rice is very important in China. Almutairi learned that rice is a healthy food, that Chinese sometime eat it alone or with fish, and that rice represents food security for the Chinese. In another conversation, Kelly, an American student, shared with Awad and others in their group that Americans enjoy many things like football, watching TV, hiking, and camping.
International Conversation Hours take place throughout the semester and are informal, guided conversations on various topics including movies, fashion, gender, and holidays. Everyone is welcome to join. The next International Conversation Hour takes place on Sept. 17 from 7-8 p.m. For more information, email Kristina Guyton at jetter@ohio.edu.
