The Focus on Food: Focus on Japan film series presents two showings this week at the Athena Cinema.
Wednesday, Sept. 30, at 7 p.m., Jiro Dreams of Sushi. This documentary tells the story of the 85-year-old owner of a Tokyo-based Sushi restaurant, who has been titled “the worlds greatest sushi chef.” His tireless perfectionism has made him the first sushi chef to be awarded three Michelin stars.
Thursday, Oct. 1, 7 p.m., Miyazaki’s Spirited Away. In 2001, this animated film was the first anime to win the Academy award for Best Animated Feature Picture. While relocating to a small Japanese town with her family, 10-year old Chihiro encounters the unexpected when she ventures into a realm controlled by spirits, gods, creatures and sorcerers.
Both films will be directly followed by panel discussions. Free Admission.
Sponsored by the Food Studies theme, the Linguistics Department, and the School of Applied Health Sciences and Wellness.
