You’ve edited your resume for what feels like the hundredth time. You’ve meticulously chosen your professional outfit. You’ve done your research on Bobcat CareerLink to learn more about the employers coming to the Career & Internship Fair. Now, how do you stand out among your peers in a networking setting? Here are a few tips to keep in mind:
-
Know Your 30-Second Pitch
When somebody says to you, “Tell me about yourself,” do you have a good answer? Now is the time to perfect your personal “pitch.” Here are some questions to consider:
What are you studying?
What are your career interests?
Are you seeking an internship or a full-time position?
-
Come Prepared
If you have a resume, be sure to bring several copies to hand to recruiters at the fair. A notebook and pen is essential for you to keep track of the conversations you’ve had with recruiters and jot down notes about what you liked (or disliked).
-
Ask Questions
Chances are, the window of time you’ll spend speaking with a company representative will be brief, so be sure to use it wisely. Prepare a general list of questions to ask any employer you interact with. If there’s a particular organization you’re interested in, get specific with your questions. Now is the time to ask.
Attend the Career & Internship Fair Sept. 22 & 23
The Career and Leadership Development Center hosts the largest networking event of the academic year on Tuesday, Sept. 22, and Wednesday, Sept. 23. More than 150 employers from across the state of Ohio and beyond will be in Athens to network with students regarding their companies’ internship, co-op, and full-time positions.
The fair is held in Baker Center Ballroom from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on both Sept. 22 and Sept. 23. Business professional attire is required. For a full list of employers and additional details about the event, visit www.ohio.edu/careerandleadership.
