College of Arts & Sciences faculty received four of the six proposals funded by the Ohio University Research Committee during its spring 2015 cycle. In total, the committee awarded $47,380.
The program, which is funded by the Vice President for Research and Creative Activity, provides seed money for new faculty and administrative staff members or established applicants seeking to start a new direction in their research. Applicants may request up to $8,000 per proposal. The committee received a total of 13 proposals requesting $98,191 in funding.
The College of Arts & Sciences recipients are:
Dr. Assan Sarr, Assistant Professor of History, $8,000 for Chiefs, Clerics and Farmers: Transformation of Land Tenure Systems along the Banks of the Gambia River, Late Eighteenth- Early Twentieth Centuries.
Dr. Jixin Chen, Assistant Professor of Chemistry & Biochemistry, $8,000 for Super Resolution Optical Mapping of Single DNA.
Dr. Donald Miles, Professor of Biological Sciences, $8,000 for Will Behavioral Compensation Buffer Species Loss in a Warming Climate?
Dr. Smoki Musaraj, Assistant Professor of Anthropology, $7,380 for Construction, Speculation and the Mediterranean Dream.
The Ohio University Research Committee offers two cycles of funding, in fall and spring, during the 2015-16 school year.
