Molecular and Cellular Biology students and faculty welcomed new faculty member Dr. Ronan Carroll, Assistant Professor of Biological Sciences, at a special seminar hosted at the Edison Biotechnology Institute that included a celebration of St. Patrick’s day.
Carroll gave a seminar on his research, discussing his work to re-annotate the genome of Staph. aureus with a particular interest in defining the function of small RNAs in this important human pathogen.
After the seminar, Dr. John Kopchick invited Carroll to his lab’s annual St. Patrick’s day celebration complete with a meal of Irish breads and corned beef and cabbage. Carroll grew up and was educated in Ireland and speaks with an authentic Irish brogue – he explained the traditions of St. Patrick as they are celebrated in Ireland along with some history of Ireland.
