Ohio University selected six Spring 2015 proposals totaling $56,781 to receive Baker Fund awards, with three of them going to College of Arts & Sciences faculty.
Endowed in 1961 by a gift of more than $612,000 from College of Arts & Sciences alum Edwin L. Kennedy ’26 and his wife, Ruth Kennedy ’30, an alum of the College of Education, the John C. Baker Fund supports faculty improvement and research efforts. Up to $12,000 is available for each award.
The following proposals were selected in April:
Dr. Jared DeForest, Associate Professor of Environmental & Plant Biology, was awarded $12,000 for Identifying the Soil Microorganisms that Mitigate Low Phosphorus Availability.
Dr. Harvey Ballard, Associate Professor, and Dr. Sarah Wyatt, Environmental and Plant Biology, were awarded $9,110 for Dissecting the Genetic Basis of the Mixed Breeding System in Violets.
Dr. Charlie Morgan, Assistant Professor of Sociology & Anthropology, was awarded $11,892 for International Families Shaping Immigration in Japan.
The Baker Fund offers two cycles of funding during fall and spring semesters. The next deadline is in October.
