The Sustainability Studies curricular theme presents Sustainable Farming in Athens County: A Conversation with Kip Rondy of Green Edge Gardens on Monday, April 6, at 9:40 a.m. in Bentley Hall 240.
Rondy is talking to CAS 1415, the Introduction to Sustainability class, and interested members of the Ohio University community to offer a perspective from the world of sustainable farming in Athens County.
Kip and Becky Rondy are the co-owners of Green Edge Gardens, a family owned 120-acre organic farm in rural Athens County in Amesville, OH—25 minutes from Athens. Green Edge Gardens employs many fulltime and part-time people and is the largest employer in Amesville. The farm is dedicated to producing the highest quality certified organic produce. Water for irrigation comes from a series of spring-fed ponds on the property. Eight greenhouses provide a variety of vegetables, micro-greens and specialty mushrooms year round. The farm hosts a CSA (Community Supported Agriculture) that provides food to destinations in Columbus and surrounding communities. This 100 percent certified organic produce is available to both wholesale and retail customers. Vegetables and mushrooms are available in the summer and winter for both wholesale and retail customers.
