Two College of Arts & Sciences professors—Dr. Ryan Fogt and Dr. Soichi Tanda—have been named among the 2015-16 University Professor awardees.
The program recognizes outstanding teaching at Ohio University and benefits faculty and students alike. The selection process begins with nominations from the student body. Since its founding in 1970, the University Professor program has recognized more than 200 professors for their teaching excellence.
Fogt, Associate Professor of Geography, teaches meteorology and serves as director of the Scalia Lab. He studies climate dynamics, in particular how components of the large-scale atmospheric circulation affect climate across the Southern Hemisphere, especially Antarctica.
Tanda, Associate Professor of Biological Sciences and member faculty of Molecular and Cellular Biology, mentors many pre-health profession students, including those in the Early Assurance Program with Ohio University’s Heritage College of Medicine. His laboratory uses a model organism, the fruit fly Drosophila melanogaster, to understand how development balance is maintained using genetics including transgenic flies, cell biology, microscopy, and bioinformatics.
