About the Americorps Panel, March 19
An panel discussion of the Americorps program is Thursday, March 19, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. in Baker Center Amanda Cunningham Leadership Center, Room 366.
Panel members will provide information on the Americorps program, discuss the application process, talk about their experiences, successes and challenges, and answer questions about the program. All students are eligible.
Loraine McCosker, academic adviser in Environmental Studies at the Voinovich School for Leadership and Public Affairs, talks with undergraduates and graduate students about their goals and how to move forward after their academic experience.
“Students are looking for opportunities to expand their skills beyond academics and transition into the real world. The Americorps program is a wonderful opportunity for college students to gain full-time, real-world experience in a field of interest while being paid and earning an education award to pay back student loans or apply to future education. There are many opportunities in the Athens region, and students also may apply around the country and engage in that exciting experience they are dreaming about. Students develop work skills and learn about real-world problem solving,” McCosker says.
Panelists for the Americorps evening include Amy Mackey and Dustin Gross, Raccoon Creek Partnership; Mat Roberts, Com Corps-Federal Hocking School System, Heritage College of Osteopathic Medicine; Shannon Steward, Americorps coordinator Rural Action; Becky Hobson, Americorps volunteer, Community Food Initiatives; and Nora Sullivan, former Americorps, Monday Creek.
