The African American Studies Department is partnering with the Black Graduate Student Association on a series of coffee cup stickers in the Baker Center Front Room.
The first one celebrates Black History Month with some “Did You Know?” facts:
- The hairbrush, lawn mower, cellphone, refrigerator, air conditioner and traffic light are all the fruits of African-American inventors’ creative laboring.
- Shirley Chisholm was the first Black woman elected to Congress and the first Black major-party presidential candidate who survived three assassination attempts during her 1972 campaign.
- Sidney Poitier was the first African-American actor to be nominated for (1958) and to win (1963) an Academy Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role.
