We’re past the initial excitement that comes with the start of the semester, it’s COLD outside and the end of winter seems unreachable, right?? Well, believe me, we’re all dreaming of springtime in Athens and I know our Seniors see glimpses of commencement on the horizon. But sometimes we just need to look beyond our own current situation to improve our outlook on life. So my advice for all of you this week is to get out of your slump by reaching out or planning ahead. Here are just a few suggestions:
Reaching Out
- Join that student group that you’ve been putting off. There’s no time like the present.
- Volunteer through Campus Involvement. There are a ton of organizations throughout Athens county that could really use your help this winter.
- Check out the rock wall, basketball courts, or indoor track at Ping. Go ice skating at Bird Arena. Take a swim in the indoor pool at the Aquatic Center.
- Get a group of friends together to hang out, watch a movie, go shopping or have dinner.
- Take the time to call home.
Planning Ahead
- Make a list of what you hope this accomplish this Spring semester and get to work crossing those items off.
- Scope out Summer jobs and internships, as well as volunteer and study abroad opportunities. Warmer weather is ahead and summer is a great time to get experience outside of the classroom.
- Schedule an appointment with the Career and Leadership Development Center to talk resumes and career tracks. We even have our very own Arts and Sciences CLDC rep, Jessie Carter (carterj2@ohio.edu).
- Plan that Spring Break trip you’ve been dreaming of and then figure out how you will conquer all of the exams, homework and study sessions from now until February 27th.
- Check out Summer classes that could help you get ahead, boost your GPA or take advantage of smaller class size. Summer classes are now available on Course Offerings.
