Alum Sentences Himself to R&R—551 Jury Trials Later

After presiding over 551 jury trials Ohio University alum Judge James L. Kimbler “has sentenced himself to 60 days of rest and relaxation as he begins retirement,” reports the Medina (OH) Sun News.

Kimbler, a 1971 graduate of the College of Arts & Sciences at Ohio University, presided over Medina County Common Pleas Court for 18 years.

“I’m going to read a lot more books. I’ll probably make dinner more than I used to,” he said, noting that turkey burgers, rice and peas were on the menu for that evening. He will continue to ride his bike and go hiking, hobbies he has long enjoyed.

And he’ll make time for occasional workday lunches with his wife, Joyce V. Kimbler, who was elected to fill the judgeship he just vacated.

“I was a judge for 28 years, 10 months and 21 days – not that anyone’s counting,” he said. “My plan is to do nothing for 60 days. I want to see what it’s like not to do things.”
