Hello Arts & Sciences students!
Did you know that Ohio University has over 50 minors available and 29 of those belong to the College of Arts & Sciences?
Many students ask why a minor matters or how it could help with their career since it’s not their major focus. Well, a minor matters because it provides flexibility and shows employers that you have a wide range of skills. Sure you could always say that you took Spanish classes in college, but wouldn’t it be better to demonstrate the credentials on your resume by listing a minor?
Minors also can be a great way to have a second focus of study and be completed in a shorter amount of time than double majoring, allowing you to expand your educational horizons. Many of the courses that you are taking to complete foreign language and liberal arts distribution requirements (humanities, social sciences and natural sciences) could potentially be utilized towards a minor.
If you plan ahead with your adviser, you can usually complete both a major and minor within your intended graduation time frame.
