The Wealth & Poverty curricular theme presents Dr. Harlan Beckley on “Poverty Studies in Higher Education: The Case for Need and Collaboration” on Monday, Nov. 3, at 4 p.m. in Baker Center 231.
This event is free and open to the public.
Beckley is the Fletcher Otey Thomas Professor of Religion Emeritus and Emeritus Adjunct Professor of Law at Washington and Lee University. He is the co-founder and Executive Director of the Shepherd Higher Education Consortium on Poverty, a 22-member non-profit organization devoted to promoting a sustained interdisciplinary education for undergraduates and professional students in all majors to prepare them to address poverty as part of their professional, civic and political lives.
Ohio University faculty also are invited to a Conversation about the Shepherd Higher Education Consortium on Poverty on Tuesday, Nov. 4, at 4:30 p.m. in Bentley Annex 007. Dr. Stephen Scanlan, Associate Professor of Sociology at Ohio University, is leading an initiative across campus to entertain Ohio University membership in the Shepherd Higher Education Consortium on Poverty.
