Houk is one of two former wardens from the Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction to visit the class, along with OHIO alumnus Ray Zielinski, who runs a prisoner re-entry program at the Athens County Work Station.

“The speakers offered students a chance to envision themselves working in these fields in Ohio,” Kaufman said. “They also provided vivid examples that bring to life the difficult issues we have learned about in class.”

Houk spoke about his life experiences in the criminal justice system, which he has been part of for 27 years. As a member of the ODRC’s Parole Board and a former warden of four different Ohio prisons, Houk offered OHIO students an opportunity to hear and learn from his own experiences.
