Two College of Arts & Sciences alumni are among the new members named to the Ohio University Foundation Board of Trustees.
Janis E. Jones ’79 of Westerville, Ohio, earned her bachelor’s degree in mathematics from the College of Arts and Sciences in 1979. From 1993 to 2013 Jones worked as director, president and owner of Great Northern Consulting Services, Inc. in Columbus, Ohio. Jones is a two-year member of the Ohio University Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science Advisory Committee in Athens, Ohio. She was a speaker for the Women in Science & Engineering Day from 1983 to 2012. In 2001, she became formally recognized as a Distinguished Alumna in the College of Arts and Sciences. Jones looks forward to adding her enthusiasm and expertise to the Foundation. “As a new member, I hope to contribute enthusiasm,” she said. “As I learn and grow, I will contribute continued enthusiasm plus insight from my 30 years of experience.”
Ron Teplitzky ’84 graduated summa cum laude in 1984 with a business pre-law major in the Department of Political Science, and was a member of the OHIO chapter of honor fraternity Phi Beta Kappa. He received his law degree from Case Western Reserve University Law School in 1987. Now, Teplitzky is a principal in the Cleveland law firm of Singerman, Mills, Desberg & Kauntz Co., L.P.A. He practices in areas of commercial finance and banking, business law, and creditors’ rights. Teplitzky currently is vice chair of the Ohio University Alumni Association Board of Directors. He hopes to learn from, as well as contribute to, the Foundation Board. “I hope to learn about the inner workings and strategies of the Foundation and its plans for the future. I am particularly interested in learning about the future construction plans and the beautification of the Athens campus,” Teplitzky said. “In addition I would like to get involved in the workings and continued renovation of the Ohio University Inn.”
Established in 1945 by President John C. Baker, The Ohio University Foundation serves as the fundraising arm of OHIO. The Foundation is an institutionally-related, nonprofit, tax exempt, 501(c)(3) organization, and is the repository for all private gifts to Ohio University through annual giving programs, capital and special campaigns, and planned or deferred gifts such as bequests and trusts. Gifts from generous donors have provided for scholarships and financial aid packages, research and faculty development, capital expansion and renovations, technology upgrades and lab equipment, library acquisitions, and vital unrestricted support that have allowed Ohio University to meet unexpected challenges.
