The Center for Law, Justice & Culture hosted Geoffrey Rapp, the Harold A. Anderson Professor of Law and Values at the University of Toledo College of Law on Nov. 4 in Bentley Hall.

Students read a case selected by Professor Rapp prior to the session. Rapp, who teaches Corporate Law, Tort Law, and Sports Law, gave a brief introduction to torts and utilized the Socratic Method used in law schools.

Rapp quizzed the 45 students who attended regarding their understanding of the facts of the case, and the legal concepts of negligence, recklessness, intentional acts, and assumption of the risk. After the class, he answered students’ questions regarding preparing for law school, the LSAT, law school itself, and the bar examination.

Following up on the mock law school torts class, OHIO’s Center for Law, Justice & Culture and the Honors Tutorial College are hosting Pre-Law Days.

  • On Nov. 13, former Supreme Court Justice and alumnus Yvette McGee Brown gives a keynote address from 5-6 p.m. in Baker Theater, on the second floor of Baker Center.
  • On Nov. 14, more than 20 Ohio University alumni attorneys from all over the country converge on Athens to serve on panel discussions throughout the morning.  The panels begin at 9:35 a.m., 10:45 a.m., and 11:50 a.m. and are located in Baker Center 226, 229, 230, and 231.  Topics to be discussed include “Is Law School Worth It?,” “Landing Your Dream Job or Internship,” “Alternative Careers in the Law,” “Women in the Law,” and several more.

Pre-Law Days will afford students an excellent opportunity to learn about law school and legal practice. At the same time, students will have a unique opportunity to network and build relationships with Ohio University alumni.
