The Common Experience Project on Sustainability is presenting the film Cafeteria Man at the Athena Cinema on Wednesday, Nov. 7, at 7 p.m.
Admission is free. A discussion panel follows the film.
Panelists are Dr. Theresa Moran, Assistant Professor of English and Food Studies theme faculty leader; Tom Gibbs, Athens City School District Assistant Superintendent; Ruth Dudding, Athens Health Department educator; Athens public school students Katelyn Johnson and Herron Linscott; and Ohio University Food Matters student Chelsea Csuhran.
The feature documentary Cafeteria Man chronicles an ambitious effort to “green” the public school diet serving 83,000 students in Baltimore—and later, over 200,000 students in Memphis.
The film chronicles the story of a positive movement that shows what’s possible in the nation’s schools. It’s about the inspiration of school officials and students and community coming together to create a better way for students to eat at school. It’s about changing the paradigm of an unhealthy food system. It’s the story of what it takes, and who it takes, to make solutions happen.
