Ohio University student Toluwaleke Ajayi was awarded the Mary W. Stoertz Scholarship by the Geological Sciences Department.
Ajayi is conducting research for his M.S. thesis project “Modeling Discharge and Chemical Transport in Hewett Fork, a Subwatershed of Racoon Creek, Ohio” with Dr. Dina López.
The scholarship was established in memory of Dr. Mary Stoertz, a professor in the Geological Sciences Department from 1992 until her passing in 2007. She specialized in hydrogeology and was dedicated to research, student mentoring, teaching, and service centered on the restoration of rivers in southeast Ohio. Her contributions have made a lasting impact on the quality of surface waters in Ohio.
The Mary W. Stoertz Scholarship is awarded to graduate students working on environmental or hydrogeology thesis projects and with a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
