Athens Messenger reporter Susan Tebben interviewed Dr. Kim Little, Associate Director of Ohio University’s Women’s, Gender and Sexuality Studies program.
She is a Tennessee native who came to Athens County in 1997. She is proud to say, “I Am Athens County.”
What brought you to the area?
I came to Athens County to go to grad school. I studied 20th century U.S. women’s history.
Why did you pick Ohio University for grad school?
I came specifically to study with Dr. Katherine Jellison, she was my professor when I was working on my master’s degree. She always encouraged me to go to academic conferences and stay with one toe in the academic pool. She was my primary encouragement, and she was working on oral histories, so I worked with her on her book about the history of weddings and it was great work.
I felt like at that time, which was the mid-’90s, we weren’t seeing people doing a combination of popular culture, and she was doing that….
