Blueberry Soup imageBlueberry Soup is a new documentary film by Eileen Jarrett that explores Iceland’s exciting political and legal events and their importance for Iceland and the world.

In October of 2008, Iceland’s banking industry collapsed following the global economic crash. Unlike the United States, which chose to bail out its banking industry, Iceland instead chose to reconsider its most basic values. After weeks of public protest, a group of average citizens came together and used various forms of social media to produce what promised to be the world’s first crowd-sourced constitution. As one participant stated: “Even though we are a very tiny island, Iceland can have a role to play in the world. What we are doing with crowdsourcing our vision and our values, is a kind of a new development of democracy.”

This event is sponsored by Ohio University’s Department of Political Science; the Center for Law, Culture & Justice; the Making and Breaking the Law curricular theme; the School of Film; and Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies Program.
